Hello and Happy New Year, dear readers! I hope you all enjoyed your holidays. We had a great trip to Southwest Virginia to visit my parents. Aida wasn’t feeling her best ,so we kept things low key, but it was really relaxing, and I was so happy to spend time with my family.
Like many others, I’m always a little sad when the holidays are over and all the decorations come down. However, I’m looking forward to many exciting things that 2018 has to offer! Aida’s 2nd birthday is coming up in February (cue the tears), plus we have actually made a contract on a new house! It’s new construction so it won’t be completed until late spring/early summer–it’s a little bit further away than where we live now, but it’s a cheaper cost of living there and a slower pace of life than Northern Virginia. I haven’t said much about it because we still have several months to go before it’s officially ours, and I don’t want to jinx things–so please keep positive thoughts and prayers for us!
I decided to label my plans as “intentions” instead of “goals” because, as Sarah Herron pointed out on Instagram, you can always be working and reforming your intentions–it’s more of a journey than a finite destination. I have two very big intentions this year:
- Finish my first novel
- Grow my blog, enough to bring extra income to our family
These are very lofty intentions, and honestly, I was hesitant to even put them into words. But, I’m hoping to hold myself accountable, and I thought this would be a good space to share my progress and help myself stay on track.
I have also decided that my word of the year for 2018 is “gratitude.” I was inspired by another blogger, Bonnie, to use this word. I have so much in my life to be thankful for, but I often push that aside and instead choose to focus on all the bad things that have happened throughout my day or week (like toddler meltdowns, for example). When I focus on the negative, I become negative, and that is not the type of personality I want to convey to my family. I might even do a weekly blog post about gratitude–what do you all think?
So those are my big intentions for 2018! Do you set any sort of resolution or intention for the new year? I’d love to hear them in the comments section!
