Friends, I am worn out! There has been a terrible cold going around our house, and it has not been fun. Fingers crossed that Aida doesn’t end up getting it, because mama needs some rest.
This is a new series I’m trying out, called “This Week in Motherhood.” It’s a way for me to share some of the highs and lows and reflect on all the thing that have happened in the past week. Let me know what you think!
Little Miss Aida Marie is starting to sing along to some of her favorite songs. So what if she can only shout out a word or two here and there? I’m pretty sure we’ve got a future grammy winner on our hands.
Aida has been testing boundaries for a while, but the worst is the way she’s been fighting naptime/bedtime–she’ll wrap her legs around me and cry “hold it, mama!” (Which translates to “hold me.”) When I try to lay her down in her crib, she clings harder and grabs for me, now hysterically crying and shouting, “hold it mama! hold it!” Sometimes I give in and hold her a little longer, but she still loses her mind when I try to put her in her crib. However, as soon as I’m out of the room, she will settle down. I know this is just another phase, but it breaks my heart to walk away. (And of course, as I walk away, all those classic mom cliches run through my mind. “She won’t be this young forever! Enjoy those cuddles while you can! The laundry can wait!” Well, the laundry can wait but my bladder cannot.)
Last night, Aida went up to her bathroom door and said, “potty? tinkle?” So we gave it a shot, Matt held her up, and she basically giggled the whole time and thought it was hilarious. Then she tried to tell us that Millie had to go on the potty too, and when we tried to tell her that dogs go outside, she simply wasn’t having it and would say, “no, no, no. Ninny tinkle on potty.” All in all, a hilarious moment, but I guess we are about to embark on the super fun adventure of potty training!
I never imagined how much I could love this little girl, but I also never imagined how much motherhood would just be a never-ending stream of me questioning myself. Worth it, though.
What’s new with you this week? Before I sign off, just wanted to let you know that Loft has an extra 60% off sale! Most other places don’t seem to be having many good sales, considering we just had Cyber Week(s) and all, but this is a good one. My sweater in the picture below is included, and the jeans are marked down to $40! Happy shopping and happy Friday!
