Hello friends!!!! I safely returned from New Orleans, finally! We were scheduled to return Tuesday night, then our flight got delayed. After we finally boarded the plane, we sat there for almost 45 minutes before the pilot finally informed us they were working on a mechanical issue. Naturally, I freaked out. After they tried the classic method of “turning it off then turning it on again,” they finally decided to deplane us while they tried to fix it.

Of course, all their efforts were in vain and around 11pm they officially cancelled the flight. We got vouchers for one night at a hotel, for the cab rides to and from the airport, and for food, but otherwise United was most unhelpful. When we tried to rebook, they tried to tell us that our flight wasn’t cancelled, it was delayed, then when we couldn’t get a return flight until two days later, they gave us the runaround when we tried to get a voucher for an additional night at the hotel. Luckily, our friend Alison saved the day, and all turned out for the best since we got to spend another day in the beautiful city of New Orleans.
I’ve got many blog posts planned to recap our trip, but today I’m teaming up with Lauren from Fizz and Frosting for Mix it Monday, and I thought it would be perfect for me to feature one of my outfits I wore during Mardi Gras. (P.S., if you’ve got your own lovely outfit to share, don’t forget to link up below!)
There are no rules during Mardi Gras–people wear all sorts of costumes, wigs, and sparkles, and I definitely sported a purple, gold, and green tutu for at least two days we were there. However, for the first day, I desperately wanted to wear my coral maxi dress. The weather was going to be in the 70s, and all I wanted to wear was one of my favorite spring outfits.
I wasn’t quite ready to go all out for warm weather, so I wore a chambray top over the dress and belted it, an idea inspired by a similar outfit worn by the lovely Karly Kim. Just about everything in this outfit is from the J. Crew outlet (one of my favorites), but I also threw in my favorite Tory Burch flats and sunglasses, my classic MK watch, and a Kate Spade crossbody that was basically the best bag ever for running around a city.
I recently wore the outfit again to a friend’s jewelry party. The temperature that day was in the upper 40s, but you know how it is–you desperately want spring weather to arrive, so you dress like it’s already here anyway and cold weather be damned!
This time, I switched up my accessories and wore a skinny black belt from Target, a Michael Kors bag, and a necklace I recently acquired from a Lia Sophia party. I’m actually hosting my own party this coming weekend, and I’ve got more details on that coming up this week!
Let me know what you think of my outfit, friends, and link up your Mix it Monday posts below! And thank you for your patience since I was kind of MIA at the end of last week. We certainly are thankful for our extra day in Nola, but it absolutely threw us into a scatter when we arrived home.
