WE ARE BACK with the special edition of Treat Yo Self Tuesday, the Gift Guide! So far, we’ve reviewed ideas for both the guys and the gals, and now let’s dive into the realm of the unique and unexpected.
Sometimes, shopping for gifts can be difficult. You don’t want to just get them the same thing you get every. single. year, and you also want that person to brag about your awesome, thoughtful gift. So where does that leave you?
Have no fear, dear reader, I’ve come to the rescue! Maybe these aren’t the most original ideas as I’ve advertised, but they are standards I rely on when I want to get a unique gift for that special someone.
|Sorry Buddy, it’s not lingerie.
– Donate to a Charity
Honestly, how much stuff does one person need? This can be a very meaningful gift to anyone, and it can be made personal by donating to a charity that is important to them.
– A Coupon Book
No, I’m not talking about the kind of coupons that get you $2 off a 24 pack of Charmin (but if you’ve got those, I’ll gladly take them off your hands). I’m talking about the hand-drawn (with crayons!) versions you used to make for your mom when you were five.Or was that just me?
Datevitation takes away all the work for you and creates personalized coupon books. You can pick your dates from a number of categories, or create your own (and categories range from romantic to X-rated, just to give you an idea). I got this for Matt one year and it was a huge hit.

One of the greatest gifts you can give a person is the ability to binge watch Gossip Girl.
|You’re just mad you didn’t think of it yourself.
– Shop Local
You know what’s really unique? A gift that can’t be found at Target, Wal-Mart, or any other chain store. These days, I know it’s possible for people to buy “local” things that are states away (thank you, internet), but it’s still a sweet gesture to hand pick your favorite local items and wrap them up in a lovely, little gift basket. Matt and I are heading home to my parent’s house for Christmas, so we’ll definitely be bringing a few bottles of the best wine Loudoun County has to offer.
I know I’ve mentioned it in other gift guides, but it really does make a great gift–there are so many awesome events going on in your neighborhood, and you can get tickets for it at a great price. Make sure you buy two, though, so the giftee feels obligated to take you as their guest.
– The Jelly of the Month Club
DUH. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

And that, friends, wraps up our gift guides! What are your favorite unique gifts to give and receive? If you’re still struggling with Christmas shopping, send me an email–I don’t mean to brag, but I’m kind of a big deal. And by “big deal,” I mean I’m so good at gifting, I should be a professional.
