Have I mentioned I hate seafood? Because I do. It’s gross. It all has that weird salty fish taste to it that makes me want to vom.
Despite my sentiments, in the past few years I have been branching out and actually eating seafood, so I guess I don’t hate it SO completely. These days, I’m open to eating some types of sushi, ahi Tuna, shrimp, charred lobster, and just about anything fried.
If it’s seafood I’m craving, there’s only one place in Loudoun I will go: Ford’s Fish Shack. It is THE BEST.
First of all, they have one of the best cocktails of all time–Ford’s Fantastic Lemonade. It’s homemade lemonade, blueberry vodka, mint, and of course, real blueberries. It’s so delightful I can throw them back like water, which is dangerous considering I’m in my late twenties and can no longer handle more than two alcoholic drinks in one evening.
The next great thing about Ford’s is their appetizer menu–they always have great happy hour specials (think $5 angry mussels), so you could basically fill up on appetizers and corn muffins (which are also awesome, btw). My favorite would be the Maine Chips–hand cut potato chips topped with charred lobster, tomatoes, blue cheese, and basil-garlic aioli. I don’t have a picture to do it justice, so you’ll just imagine it in your head. Are you drooling yet? I’m seriously considering nixing my dinner plans and asking Matt to take me to Ford’s.
Another appetizer favorite is the Angry Mussels, which is mussels soaked in something that I don’t care about, because I find mussels to be GROSS, but it does come with some bomb-dot-com garlic ciabatta bread, so that makes it worth ordering.
Still hungry? You can’t go wrong with a basket of fried oysters or blackened fish tacos. They both come with shoestring fries, which just makes you want to give high fives all around.
Lastly, DID I MENTION THEY SERVE BRUNCH?!?! Because they do, and it has got to be one of our top three brunch destinations. They serve CORNFLAKE CRUSTED FRENCH TOAST, for cryin’ out loud! It’s delightful!! AND their breakfast potatoes are the best I’ve ever tasted. They are sliced thin and fried just enough until they are lightly golden. Mmmmmm.
|Don’t even get me started on that bacon.|
I’ve also just realized we haven’t been to Ford’s for brunch in TWO MONTHS! This will need to be corrected immediately.
Thanks for checking out the second in my series about Loudoun! If you’re ever in town, make sure you go to Ford’s, and make SURE you take me with you.
